Three Steps for Success: Lessons from the Past Year

(Originally posted 20th March 2020 on LinkedIn)

With the University cancelling classes today amidst COVID-19, I wanted to share a reflection of the past year. Working full time with Spartan Controls, while also taking a full course load, I often hear such comments:

"Wow you are insane!", "You must be Superman" and most frequently, "What's your secret?"

Here's my "secret":

1. Hard Work

There is no replacement for it. You accomplish what you put your mind to. The sky isn't the limit - it's what you believe it to be.

2. Strive for Happiness

Work hard and play harder. Volunteer. Be active in your community. Engage in enjoyable extracurriculars. Surround yourself with positive and successful people, they'll elevate you.

3. Embrace Your Passions

The old adage - if you're passionate about your work, you'll never work a day in your life. Spartan is an amazing place to be. Beyond that, finding outlets for passion - whether in other business, work, or extracurriculars, it will do wonders.

There isn't a magic bullet. It's hard work, balance, and passion. If the past year has taught me anything it's that these three things can take you far.
