Introducing: ON LIFE (SOME VERSES ON VIRTUE)

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.
— Robert Frost

I began compiling a chapbook of poems just over a year ago. This late start was not for a lack of writing - as I have been writing verse and prose since I was a child - but instead, there were two notable changes in my life that prompted me to nestle these into a nice package with a well-tied bow.

  1. The end of a dream

  2. The coming of age

Allow me to explain.

Being a musician, I had always turned my verses into lyrics, with aspirations of forming a great band, selling records, and selling-out stadiums. Having come from non-musical environments throughout my schooling (though intermittently joined by prospects of bands, twice in middle school, and again in high school) I wondered at the prospect of meeting great like-minded musicians in college.

Although I did meet my drummer (who is now one of my most dearest friends) the lack of a suitable vocalist, and the inability for my own vocal talents to develop meant that such dreams became just a bit dimmer. This in part, allowed me to shift my writing and expression into verses not as lyrics, but as poetry.

The second factor was the dawning realization that I had completed over half of my degree and had only a handful of English classes remaining in University, I wanted to find an outlet for my passion for literature, and so, this chapbook manifested.

I have entitled this chapbook as “ON LIFE (SOME VERSES ON VIRTUE)” as I believe these poems offer some philosophical contemplation on the meaning of life. I will be releasing one poem a week until all titles have been released. I leave you now with the dedication that precedes my first poem:

TO ALL THE BROKEN HEARTS LONELY SOULS
&
TORTURED MINDS THAT HAVE SHOWN THE WAY

TO THE GIANTS WHO PRECEDED ME
